June 2010 2nd Edition - Issue: #55
Message from the President:

Dear Wonderful BWA Members!

We all have come through a challenging and busy year together and have much to celebrate. I want to begin by thanking the exceptional executive committee for their energy and dedication to making BWA a strong and positive experience for all members and an important support for women in our community. BWA is ever more relevant not only to women leaders but also to those women who are moving into leadership roles; we can see our membership becoming more diverse and active every month. After 20 years, BWA both honors its history and welcomes its future.

The creative executive committee tried some new things this year—we had real variety in speakers, tried out some new ways for interacting at lunch meetings, and held a few after hours get-togethers, including a wine tasting and our fabulous annual Marlins game. We are granting 6 scholarships to deserving women, thanks to the generosity shown by members stuffing the scholarship box and making that extra donation when paying dues. To me, this is the greatest part of BWA and I thank everyone for helping us have another great year when our help is needed more than ever.

The board also has identified some areas where alternative approaches may bring us even more success. Among the topics that may benefit from such a review are: freshening the website and putting the many paper files of our archives there and preserving our history, streamlining reservations, membership applications and the annual directory of members, improving our publicity of our scholarships, and even getting our meals more quickly in order to focus on networking and programs!

I have felt very honored to be President of BWA and enjoy getting to know more members every year. Broward Women’s Alliance is a great organization—thank you all for making it so.

Elly du Pré, President

PS And again, my heartfelt thanks to the fabulous executive committee: Maria Soldani, Connie Loewenthal, Anne McMichael, Suzanne Higgins, Joanne Davis, Geri Trodick, Allison Jewell, Bettina Lambrechts, and Dorothy Klein.
