Meeting Information/Speaker:

'Chicken Soup' Exec to Speak at Dec. 11 Meeting
Theresa Peluso learned the business of publishing from the ground up.  She honed her organizational and operational skills at a large publisher in New Jersey until joining Health Communications Inc. (HCI) in Deerfield Beach in 1981.  One of HCI's first employees for more than 20 years, Theresa was part of a management team that took HCI from shoestring start-up to the #1 self-help publisher in the country.  HCI is home to many New York Times bestsellers and the phenomenal series, Chicken Soup for the Soul.

In 2002, Theresa switched gears, moved her office to her home and turned her sights from business to book development.  She recently completed her sixth Chicken Soup for the Soul compilation, Chicken Soup for the Shopper's Soul, which is the book she will talk about at the December 11 meeting.  She works with new and established authors on developmental edits and book proposals.  Upcoming projects include more Chicken Soup books, Read a Little Bit About, a series of books to help functionally illiterate teens and adults navigate topics that are relevant and practical in their daily lives, and Sonic Boomers: That Sound You Heard Was YOU Making a Difference, about baby boomers who have discovered the secret to happiness and fulfillment.

As a special holiday treat, HCI is giving each BWA member at December's luncheon a copy of Chicken Soup for the Shopper's Soul.
