In April, Broward Women’s Alliance looked at the issue of juvenile violence through the eyes of Broward Assistant State Attorney Maria Schneider, who heads the Broward State Attorney's Office Juvenile Unit, and NSU professor Dr. Anne Rambo, an anti-bullying expert. We thank them for sharing their insights with us.

BWA Announces 2007-2008 Slate of Officers
The BWA nominating committee announces the following slate of officers for the upcoming year, to include these outstanding leaders:

Scholarship Recipients Announced
Five scholarship winners have been selected for the Broward Women's Alliance Fund for the Advancement of Women. The winners are: Jeanne Kolarik, 53, a radiology student who will complete an accelerated program allowing her to start a new career; Erin McNamee, 33, working to complete her master’s degree in social work; Lauren Stephens, 24, a graduate student in language and speech pathology: Kristen Patton, 23, an aspiring nurse; and Daniella Dorcelus, 20, who hopes to pursue a career in journalism. Don’t miss the June meeting when these students will be introduced to our membership. Thank you to Scholarship Chair Edie Pearson and her committee for their hard work on this effort.
BWA Members Enjoy Marlins Game
As a benefit to the BWA scholarship program, ten BWA members, decked out in Marlins attire, enjoyed a great Marlins vs. Mets game on April 19. BWA member Nancy Olson presented a check for scholarships for $1,750 from the Florida Marlins Community Foundation. Thank you, Nancy! (See photo in April photo gallery!)

Melinda Lee, nominee for BWA VP/Programs, is seeking input for programs for next year. She's exploring topics ranging from health and beauty and family issues to government and entertainment. Connie Chaney is competing for The Leukemia & Lymphoma's Society's 2007 Woman of the Year.
