Meeting Information/Speaker:

Malena Mendez will be our speaker on October 19th.  Malena is Director of Corporate Relations at Broward Center for the Performing Arts and will talk about her work at The Center and upcoming season.

Members:  No charge - Guests: $25.00 due at the door

Membership Drive:

We have met our goal of 100 + members, but we still want to keep growing so don’t forget to invite guests to our luncheon. We are seeking new members who are business, professional and community leaders and are in a position to contribute to the mission of our organization.   • Elly du Pre, president of BWA, lost her father on October 11, 2009.  He was just 10 days shy of his 97th birthday.  Born in Holland, he was a physicist and came to the US in 1946.
  • Our condolences to Donna Goldstein on the loss of her father Richard Goldstein on Sept 18.
  • Roberta Young is being honored at March of Dimes’ 14th Annual Women of Distinction Luncheon as a tribute to women who have made significant contributions toward enhancing the quality of life in Broward County, on November 6, 2009 at 11:30 to 1:30pm at Marriott Harbor Beach Resort & Spa.  For more details, call 954.772.2290
  • Maria Soldani is speaking at the Memorial Manor 20th Anniversary Senior Expo on November 7 and 8.  Her topic: “Lighten up: Laughter Really is the Best Medicine”.

  • Dorothy Fox, artist, will be exhibiting paintings in the November show at Artists Haven Galler, 2757 East Oakland Park Blvd, Fort Lauderdale.  Meet the Artists reception on Sat, November 7 from 7 - 9 p.m.  All invited.
  • Joanne Davis is participating in the Nike Women's ½ Marathon in San Francisco on Oct 18.  Over $14 million has been raised through this weekend event for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
  • Bettina Lambrechts has started a new company: Florida Homes and Management, Inc.  The company will specialize in the sale and management of South Florida residential properties.  Bettina, with 20 years experience, has joined a of investors form Europe. Bettina@floridahomesandmanagement.com
  • Ruth Spiegel and her store, Cold Stone Creamery/Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory in Coconut Creek, were recently featured in The Miami Herald.  Rocky Mountain is the latest addition to the her growing chain of local stores.

  • Please join in supporting "Books 'n' Bears at the Holidays", in partnership with the Broward County Library.  We are asking for BWA members to donate gently loved, plush teddy bears over the next two months to be used in Broward County Library's "Books 'n' Bears at the Holidays" program. Since 1991, Books 'n' Bears has brought the gift of reading, with a book and a toy bear, to hundreds of needy preschool-age youngsters. The children, all of whom are enrolled in child care centers, attend holiday parties at libraries, where they are entertained and served refreshments. They go home with their new book and teddy bear. Before Nov. 30, please bring the teddy bears to a BWA meeting or drop them off in the Children's department at any Broward County LIbrary.
  • Cindy Schutt announces the 25th Anniversary Celebration for Covenant House Florida on March 6, 2010 at Broward Center for the Performing Arts.  "A Night of Broadway Stars" featuring wonderful classics from "Phantom of the Opera", "Cats" and other Broadway showstoppers.
